Just over a year ago as the people of Sheffield turned out in their thousands to welcome home our Olympic heroine, Jessica Ennis, council leader Julie Dore said: “I know the people of Sheffield want a long-lasting legacy for Jessica.” Now we know what she had in mind.
It will be a pile of rubble that once was the second largest athletics stadium in the country – pulled down because Julie Dore and her short-sighted Labour councillors thought it more important to spend money re-painting their Town Hall offices.
The bare-faced hypocrisy of Dore and her lackeys is astonishing.
In one respect of course she is right. There is a long-lasting legacy – an annual bill of over £20 million for another 10 years, to pay for a stadium we no longer have.
