Locked up for mobile accident

Have your say

This week, a 20-year-old woman was sent to a young offenders’ institute for two and a half years.

She deserves it. She killed a 63-year-old grandmother, an innocent passer-by.

But how she killed her may surprise you. She wasn’t a violent little girl gang thug armed with a knife.

What caused the families of both victim and young killer such terrible pain was a mobile phone.

Keisha Wall of Berkshire did something too many young drivers think is perfectly acceptable – she answered a text while she was driving.

Keisha lost control of her car. It mounted the kerb and hit the woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong split-second.

A sobering lesson for the phone-obsessed younger generation, who will interrupt anything to take a call or a text.

It clearly hasn’t put Keisha off her mobile, though.

She arrived at court clutching hers close.
