Locals urged to discover best of Doncaster

Spring at Brodsworth Hall.

LOCALS are being urged to discover the Doncaster on their doorsteps as part of week-long drive encouraging people to enjoy their home town.

Residents are being encouraged to make the most of the borough’s shopping, markets, theatre, heritage and more over the next week, as part of English Tourism Week.

Nightlife, exhibitions, live music, racing, sports and wildlife are also on the agenda for Doncastrians between today and March 24.

And the campaign has won backing from Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies, a keen supporter of encouraging people to make the most of their own town.

He said: “It is easy to forget how much there is to see and do on our own doorstep.

“This week is a great reminder to people of all the wonderful attractions they can visit across the borough including Doncaster Racecourse, Doncaster Markets, Conisbrough Castle, Brodsworth Hall, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, our theatres and nightlife.

“This is a snapshot of what Doncaster has to offer during a typical week and it is fantastic.”

Last year Doncaster Tourism customised the English Tourism Week rose with images of the area, and used it to promote the event. It is being used again this year and Visit England has highlighted the Doncaster guide on its website as an example of best practice nationally.

The council has produced a full list of events, and highlights include live music for St Patrick’s Day tomorrow, the High Sheriff’s parade which takes place later today, and the Lincoln race meeting next Friday and Saturday.

The leaflet is available from the Tourist Information Centre, Doncaster Market, online at www.doncaster.gov.uk/whatson or www.visitdoncaster.com, and across the borough.
