Wife knifed hubby over ‘affair’ jibe

An ANGRY wife stabbed her husband of 27 years after he joked he was seeing another woman, a court heard.
Grandmother Margaret McKeown, 53, saw red and stabbed husband John twice with a kitchen knife in the chest and upper arm.
He was given stitches for superficial wounds caused by the 12cm long blade.
Sheffield Crown Court heard Mr McKeown did not want his wife to be prosecuted by the authorities but she admitted unlawful wounding.
David Wain, prosecuting, said the couple had been drinking at their home in Canklow Road, Rotherham on July 2 last year when there was a ‘sudden loss of temper’ by Mrs McKeown.
She got a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband but immediately became remorseful and called for an ambulance, expressing ‘considerable concern for his well-being.’
Dermot Hughes, defending, said the couple’s lives revolved around drinking and her actions were ‘momentary, spontaneous and it was in the face of extreme provocation’.
Her husband had been trying to provoke a reaction from her and a few minutes before told her he had been seeing another woman.
Mr Hughes said: “He had not. He repeatedly told her this to wind her up. The remarks placed her under a great deal of strain.”
But she realised with ‘horror’ what she’d done and quickly called for medical attention.
Judge Alan Goldsack jailed Mrs McKeown for 18 months saying the use of knives to cause injury was a serious matter.
He said: “Knives can and do quite often result in deaths. You could easily have killed your husband here if the blade had struck closer to his heart.”
