Wentworth Castle battle

IT MAY seem like war has broken out across the rest of the country, but in South Yorkshire, the war is only an act.

The Sealed Knot English Civil War re-enactment group will be at Wentworth Castle Gardens at Stainforth, near Barnsley this weekend, where members will re-enact the 1643 Battle of Tankersley.

The journey back in time will feature soldiers, cavalry, civilians and merchants, all in period costume.

There will also be demonstrations of period cooking and needlework.

The event is on tomorrow and Sunday from 10am until 5pm.

Usual entry fees apply.
