Volunteers needed for community flood scheme

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

Residents living near three waterways in Sheffield are being urged to take part in volunteer days to help reduce the risk of flooding.

The Environment Agency is teaming up with the River Stewardship Company to help improve flood resilience and volunteers are being sought from Chapletown, Ecclesfield, Parson Cross and Kelham Island to help.

The work includes removing overhanging vegetation and blockages and improving drainage.

It will focus around Blackburn Brook, which runs between Shiregreen and Ecclesfield, Sheffield Lane Dyke in Parson Cross and the River Don around Kelham Island.

Information will be given on making homes more flood resilient and what to do in a flood.

Training will be offered for those who wish to become voluntary flood wardens.

Volunteer days start in May and take place every Tuesday and Thursday.
