A three-year-old girl was ‘left for dead’ with serious head injuries after being hit by up to three off-road motorbikes which failed to stop.
The youngster had just got off a bus and was crossing the road with her mum when she was struck by the pack of bikes.
She was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where she has been detained.
Inspector Geoff Young, who is investigating the collision on Ridgeway in East Herringthorpe, Rotherham, said the youngster was ‘left for dead’.
“This is a very serious incident where a very young girl was struck by a motorcycle and left for dead in the middle of the road,” he said.
“The victim here is the little girl so I hope nobody is thinking of protecting the riders.
“If anybody knows who these people are, I ask that they come forward and let us know, so that we can deal with them.”
Insp Young said: “The young girl and her mum had just got off a bus when she was hit by at least one off-road motorcycle. There were three in a group travelling together and they all failed to stop.
“The little girl was left for dead in the middle of the road and we are wanting to know who was riding those bikes, and would like the local community’s help in finding them.
“We hope the community don’t see protecting the individuals as their priority - the victim is this little girl.”
Anyone with information about the collision at 3.15pm on Wednesday should call police on 101.
