Unexploded bomb alert in Sheffield

News: Latest from The Star.

News: Latest from The Star.

ROADS around Leppings Lane in Hillsborough have been sealed off this afternoon after reports of an unexploded bomb.

Police were called by council workers carrying out a routine inspection of pipes next to the River Don at Hillsborough earlier today.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team - or bomb squad - had been called out to assess the find.

She said: “Officers are attending at the river bank of the River Don near Leppings Lane, Hillsborough, after being alerted by Sheffield City Council during a routine inspection of pipes to what is believed to be an unexploded device.

“Nearby roads will be sealed off at 4pm for a minimum of an hour while an inspection is carried out.”
