Two arrested over shooting

Police in Sheffield yesterday arrested two men over a New Year’s Day shooting in Halfway.

One man, aged 27, was arrested in the early hours on suspicion of attempted murder.

A second man, whose age is unknown but who is from Beighton, was arrested mid-morning.

The men were last night in police custody, helping with inquiries, after an 18-year-old male was shot in the abdomen on grassland in Halfway Gardens.

Police said a separate investigation, into the shooting of a 45-year-old man from Manor on London Road 90 minutes later on New Year’s Day, is continuing.

A ‘team of detectives is working on the case’, a spokeswoman said. Supt Martin Hemingway said: “We will continue to take robust action in a way the people of Sheffield expect us to.”
