TV license warning to Sheffield pubs and clubs

PUBS and clubs in Sheffield have been urged to ensure they are covered by a TV licence.

The licensing authority has issued the warning ahead of the Six Nations championship, which kicks off on Saturday, February 2. Any pub, bar or sports club which shows live television must be covered by a valid licence and there must be a separate one for any living accommodation on the premises where a TV is also in use.

Anyone without a valid licence faces a court prosecution and fine of up to £1,000.

Lucy Baird, TV Licence pokeswoman for the north of England, said: “With numerous pubs and rugby clubs spread across Sheffield, watching live rugby and cheering on England in the company of friends is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It’s important that pubs and clubs are correctly licensed and we know landlords and managers want to stay within the law. It is why we are issuing this advice ahead of the tournament.”

Call 0300 790 6131 or visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk/businesses for more information.
