THREE illegal immigrants have been jailed for their part in a £700,000 cannabis factory set up in Barnsley.

Quy Pham, aged 26, Ngai Nguyen, 42 and Vin Nguyen, all of no fixed abode, were found hiding among nearly 2,000 cannabis plants growing in two homes.

They pleaded guilty to conspiracy to produce cannabis and were each jailed for two years and nine months.

Elizabeth Martin, prosecuting, said it was a very extensive cultivation. There were 864 plants in a house on Park Road, Worsbrough and 923 in a neighbouring home. The total street value was £768,000.

Sheffield Crown Court was told the men arrived in Barnsley separately on the understanding that they would be working as chefs.

But they were then forced to work as ‘gardeners’ in the drug factory.

Peter Pimm, representing Ngai Nguyen, said: “By coming here as an illegal immigrant he exposed himself to exploitation. He was vulnerable.”

Robert Sandford, for Vin Nguyen, said the men were ‘expendable commodities’ working for others.

Judge Michael Murphy QC, said: “If the word gets back to where you come from that there is money to be made from this sort of criminality without punishment and a free trip home this will become even more of a problem.”

Post 9: The trouble is that when - not if but when - the balloon goes up it's nearly always the innocent people who suffer most. The ones responsible for our predicament will make sure they're well out of it when it starts!

This scum will be deported as are any foreign low-life's who recieve a 12 month sentence in HMP Butlins. Subject, of course, to any tribunal claim that their Criminal,..... sorry, Human Rights are being infringed. No doubt they will lie that they are Gay and at risk in Vietnam, or they'll get some slag pregnant so that the totally unwanted kid give them rights to a 'family life.'

You could argue forever about who is responsible for 'soft touch' Britain, but the important thing is how the problem is dealt with. All foreigners who come here and commit crimes should be automatically deported, regardless of the circumstances. Foreign prisoners are costing us a fortune and don't exactly enrich our society.

Oh right, I understand it all so clearly now. Parliament allowed them to have those houses, so it's all Parliament's fault because Parliament controls every aspect of our lives to such an extent that if Parliament ordered we all stop breathing that would cause some serious problems. It's not the extremity of your views that causes people problems: It's their knuckle-headedness.

POST 1 ............... you cant blame this governemnt for this . we have just had 13 years of Libours open door policy on immigration , where every Tom, Dick and Abdul was allowed to waltz straight into the country . No mention of these ILLEGAL immigrants being deported after they serve their sentence. Now why does that not surprise me . soft as sh1te in this country.
