Tragic discovery of a starved horse in woods
SHOCKED inspectors from animal charity the RSPCA are appealing for information after the emaciated body of a starved horse was found dumped in woodland in South Yorkshire
A walker made the grim discovery beside a footpath in woods in Clayton, near Barnsley.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “We were called by a member of the public and sent an inspector straight to the scene.
“Unfortunately, the horse had died before we got there.
“We believe this poor animal must have been dumped out of the back of a truck or van to die, probably because the owners didn’t want to pay for a vet to treat it or to dispose of it.
“We have seen a number of similar incidents in South Yorkshire, particularly in the Doncaster area, in recent months.”
Anyone who has any specific information about who the owners of the horse were is urged to contact the RSPCA immediately.
The horse was discovered in the woods on Thursday, February 2.
Call Inspector Tamsin Drysdale on 0300 123 4999.
