Tracey to take on deputy role

Shaun Wright, the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire, has appointed a deputy - on a salary of £45,000 a year.

But the Police and Crime Panel must hold a confirmation hearing to consider the appointment, and will advise the Commissioner of its recommendation in due course.

Tracey Cheetham, a Barnsley councillor, is also constituency manager for Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis.

Commissioner Wright said Mrs Cheetham has ‘exceptional and publicly-acknowledged leadership abilities, relationship building and project management’ skills.

He added her salary reflects her continuing as a councillor and takes into account current allowances she receives in pursuance of her duties.
