Town celebrating huge fall in crime

News: Local, national and international news 24-hours a day.

CRIME figures in Dronfield have more than halved in the space of six months.

Statistics from Derbyshire Police to the town council show that recorded crimes dropped from 62 in May to 26 in November.

Dronfield North district councillor Graham Baxter, leader of North East Derbyshire Council, said: “I’ve always said that Dronfield is a safe place and the figures reflect this.

“It’s down to the hard work of our two community officers, who have a high visual impact in the town, plus community spirit and the number of activities available for youngsters.”

Crime in the town fell on a month-by-month basis apart from a small increase between September and October, when the monthly total of recorded crimes rose from 34 to 39.

Theft showed one of the biggest falls from 23 incidents in May to four in November.

Other crimes which decreased included assaults, which were down from 11 in May to five in November, and drug possession, which fell from three incidents to one.

But criminal damage rose from three to seven incidents per month during the period.
