Top loo pubs flushed with pride

Three pubs in Sheffield have won acclaim for the quality and standards of their toilets in the Loo of the Year Awards 2012.

The Francis Newton on Clarkehouse Road, Broomhill, and The Sheaf Island in Ecclesall Road have both been awarded a platinum star rating by inspectors – the highest award possible.

The Rawson Spring on Langsett Road, Hillsborough, has been awarded a gold star rating.

The awards aim to highlighti and improve toilet standards.

Inspectors make unannounced visits to hundreds of toilets in order to judge them.

All of the toilets are graded from bronze to gold with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Platinum is given only to ‘exceptional toilets’.

The loos are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

The Francis Newton manager James Grimley said: “I am delighted with the award.

“Staff work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it’s great this has been recognised.”
