Three arrested in police raid on ‘cannabis factory’ behind shop

THREE people have been arrested in a raid on a cannabis factory in Sheffield as part of a police operation across three counties.

The operation was led by Lancashire Police and also involved a raid on premises in Manchester and Long Eaton, Derbyshire.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: “We detained a total of seven people, who are currently in custody being questioned.

“They were arrested in connection with cultivation of cannabis and money laundering. The investigation relates to large amounts of cannabis being grown in the UK.”

Those arrested in Sheffield were two men aged 23 and 52, and women aged 48 and 53, all of Chinese origin, the police spokeswoman said.

A fifth person was arrested by South Yorkshire Police on suspicion of money laundering and bailed.

As well as the cannabis factory, several thousand pounds of cash were found.

An eyewitness who saw the raid on Sharrow Vale Road, said: “I was on my way to work when the police arrived at about 7.30am. The premises are behind a shop which is hardly ever open. It’s quite a surprise to find out what’s been going on.”
