Taxi driver’s conviction is quashed and a retrial decided

A Sheffield taxi driver jailed for plotting to flood the city’s streets with hard drugs has had his conviction quashed by top judges.

Ilyas Hanif, aged 46, of Ellerton Road, Firth Park, was one of a group of men found guilty of a heroin supply plot in 2007.

The gang were said to have moved six kilos of the Class A drug from Luton.

Mr Hanif was jailed for eight years in 2007 and has served his prison sentence.

Now London’s Appeal Court has ordered a retrial - and the judge directed nothing further about the case, or the reasons for the decision, be published.
