A BARNSLEY social club has been granted a new licence - despite locals’ complaints drinkers have been defecating, vomiting, fighting and having sex in the street outside.

KG’s Sports Bar and Social Club in Wombwell applied for a new licence which would allow the venue to open as an ordinary pub rather than just to members.

Opponents included the Rev Nigel Elliott from St Mary’s Church, Wombwell, who said commmittee members ‘regularly had to clean up human vomit, urine and excrement’ from the churchyard so children and community groups could use the church hall.

A total of 20 people wrote to Barnsley Council before the meeting to object to the plans.

One letter signed by residents of Kelvin Grove said: “Since KGs became the Sports Bar and Social Club the criminal damage caused during the weekends and bank holiday to properties has been immense.”

But the bar’s owner Hazel Pilkinton said the allegations were untrue. The club can now serve alcohol from 11am until 2am seven days a week after the licence was approved.
