Store is a draw for club

Players from Harworth Colliery Football Club were on hand to officially open the new Asda Harworth store on Scrooby Road.

Players from Harworth Colliery Football Club were on hand to officially open the new Asda Harworth store on Scrooby Road.

A SUPERMARKET opening has scored support from a town’s football team.

Both junior and senior players from Harworth Colliery Football Club were invited to the area’s new Asda store to cut the ribbon, because the supermarket is on the old town colliery site in Scrooby Road.

They were also given a £100 gift card as a thank you.

The store has created 85 part-time and full-time jobs.

Jonathan Wilson, chairman of the football club, said: “It was great to be a part of the opening festivities at the new Asda store and it was lovely to see the heritage of the site being acknowledged with an invitation for our players to come down and cut the ribbon.”
