Stop and search targets burglars in Doncaster village

CRIME: Crime scene.

CRIME: Crime scene.

A CLAMPDOWN on burglars in a Doncaster village has seen police carry out stop and search operations in the streets.

Officers have revealed they carried out eight stop and searches as part of an operation to deal with what residents have highlighted as a problem in Edenthorpe.

A police spokesman said: “A total of eight people have been stopped and searched in the locality but nothing was found. The Neighbourhood Response Team continue to carry out overnight patrols.”

The issue of house burglaries has been a priority for action for the Armthorpe Safer Neighbourhood Team for six months, since concerns were raised about raids in Lyndale Avenue, Longfield Drive, Milton Grove, Fothergill Drive, and Cedric Road.

Several raids were reported in the area during January, but police have not reported any in February, heard the Partners and Communities Together meeting for the area, which set the issue as a priority.

Raids in January included a burglary in Church Croft today, where thieves snapped the lock in a patio door and stole a quantity of jewellery and other property. Police say they want witnesses to get in touch with any information on the break-in, which was on January 28.
