Stocksbridge Leisure Centre campaigners plan legal action

News: Latest from The Star.

News: Latest from The Star.

A LEGAL team representing Stocksbridge Leisure Centre campaigners are applying for a judicial review into the proposed closure.

Unity Law, the firm hired by protest group 4SLC, served a notice of intention to Sheffield Council today. It comes following last week’s announcement the council is to withdraw £400,000 of public subsidy it provides for the centre.

The campaign group argue that they have not been given accurate running cost figures despite numerous requests as they attempt to draw up a business plan to ensure the future of the facility.

Members have been appealing to the council for more time to come up with a proposal to keep its doors open. 4SLC currently has until April to put forward an alternative.
