Sports bosses in Sheffield have been remembering their success in the Commonwealth Games while the competition is under way in Scotland.
Lorenzo Clark, director of operations for Sheffield International Venues, and Nicky Twigg, general manager of Springs Leisure Centre, each represented their countries in two different Commonwealth championships.
Nicky won a bronze medal in fencing for England in 1990, while Lorenzo played water polo for Wales in the 2002 Games in Manchester.
Lorenzo said: “Competing at the Commonwealth championships was undoubtedly the highlight of my 20-year career.
“In the group stages we lost to Australia and South Africa. Our final group game against Malta was tight and we eventually lost by one goal but I was named Man of the Match.
“It was an experience I’ll never forget.”
Nicky added: “The Commonwealth event was the pinnacle of my career.
“I had a great career in fencing, despite competing in an era where funding opportunities were very limited.
“It’s a fantastic sport and it’s brilliant to see the next generation of talented youngsters now training and developing in Sheffield.”
