South Yorkshire storm on its way

South Yorkshire residents are being warned to expect storms today.

The Met Office said a ‘vigorous area of low pressure’ is expected to move across northern parts of the UK later today, likely to be accompanied by a gales, some of which could be severe.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The public should be prepared for the risk of disruption to transport and possibly also power supplies.”

Gust speeds of between 60 and 70mph are forecast.

Rain is expected to turn to snow over high ground this evening.
