A single mum aged 22 who is pregnant with her third child has been jailed for 12 months - after blinding a male friend in one eye with a wine glass.
Regan Round-Hare, of Avenue Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, smashed the glass into Michael Leasley’s face in an unprovoked attack in Mexborough town centre.
He needed surgery and still does not know whether he has lost his sight permanently.
Round-Hare, who is due to give birth in January, admitted unlawful wounding.
Sheffield Crown Court heard the victim had been to a party in Mexborough and was walking with friends along Wood Street at 11pm.
One of his friends stopped to speak to Kyle Nettleship, the driver of a Citroen Saxo with Round-Hare in the passenger seat. A row broke out and Mr Leasley went across to the car, where he noticed Round-Hare was drinking from a large wine glass in her right hand.
As he rested his hands on an open window and stuck his head inside the car, Round-Hare smashed the glass into his face, said Neil Coxon, prosecuting.
Surgeons performed an emergency operation which revealed Mr Leadley had suffered a severe perforation injury to his left eye, a corneal tear and cataract. He may need further operations, and might not get his eyesight back.
David Webster, defending, said the father of Round-Hare’s unborn child is in prison, and ‘she has been assessed as a vulnerable person’.
