South Yorkshire rape victim’s DVD evidence

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

JURORS in the case of a teenage girl allegedly raped in woods have been played a second DVD of her police interviews.

On Monday, Kevin Wood, aged 35, of Ward Street, Penistone, Barnsley, was deemed unfit to stand trial accused of raping and sexually assaulting the teenager, but legally a jury must decide whether or not he ‘did the act’.

They have been hearing evidence about the alleged attack in May 2010, when the victim was 16.

Yesterday the jury was played a DVD in which the girl told police she was walking her dog in Penistone when the attack happened.

She told officers a man attacked her with a weapon, knocking her out, and she came round to find him having sex with her.

She said initially he had made a growling noise and was ‘really, really aggressive’, swearing at her and calling her names.

But later he began talking to her as if she was his girlfriend.

She said: “He had his hand over my mouth, pushing my face to the side. I was scared about what he was going to do.

“He was nasty, then he changed his tone. He sounded loving, as though he knew me.

“It was almost like I was his girlfriend or something and it just didn’t match.”

The hearing is due to continue today.
