South Yorkshire’s police chief has proved a knockout with Sheffield boxers after donating £4,500 to a city club.

Shaun Wright, county police and crime commissioner, awarded the grant for new equipment for the Sheffield City Amateur Boxing Club in Sharrow, which has 175 junior members.

The money has come from cash and assets stripped from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which aims to ensure offenders do not profit from their criminality

Head coach Brendan Warburton invited Mr Wright for a tour of the facility.

He said: “The last couple of years have been successful for the club with six national finalists and three national champions.

The proceeds of crime grant funding from Mr Wright has given the club a major boost.

“The money will help the club purchase some much needed equipment and it’s great the commissioner supports what the club is doing.”

Mr Wright said: “To see how Proceeds of Crime money is channelled back into the community and making a difference to so many individuals is always a pleasure.”
