THREE people were taken to hospital with suspected neck and back injuries after a Land Rover ran out of control in the snow and crashed into a wall in Sheffield, writes David Walsh.

The 4x4 was on Cooks Wood Road, Burngreave, approaching the junction with Rutland Road, when it crashed at 11pm on Saturday.

Firefighters said it ran across the junction and virtually demolished a wall.

Officers found the female driver and two occupants, a man and another woman, still inside and apparently injured.

All three were removed on protective spine boards after they sliced the roof off the Freelander with cutting gear.

A fire spokesman said: “The Land Rover came down the road and hit a patch of snow at the bottom of the hill. It went through the lights and nearly demolished a wall on the other side of the junction.

“The air bags had deployed. All three had suffered suspected injuries and were lifted out after we removed the roof.”

Two appliances were on the scene for 1hr 15mins.
