A cruel thief stole an 84-year-old’s woman’s £62 bingo winnings after tricking his way into her home.

The woman was one of three elderly victims targeted in South Yorkshire.

A man called at a house on Goldthorpe Road, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, at 2.20pm on Wednesday, claiming to be a gas board official working in the area and said he needed to turn off the boiler.

Once inside the 84-year-old woman’s house he asked for a cup of tea – and while she was making it the conman said he had left something in another house and would return soon.

His victim later discovered £62 she had won at bingo had been taken from her bag.

Later the same day, a woman had just returned to her home on Judy Row, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, when she was duped by a man.

He claimed he worked for the gas board and asked to check her heating.

She allowed him into her home and she later discovered a purse containing £300 and bank cards was missing, along with a box of 200 cigarettes.

And at 5.30pm on Thursday an 83-year-old woman, of Ravenholt, Worsbrough, was conned by a man claiming to be a gas board official who said he needed to check her boiler.

Once he had left his victim realised her bag containing between £200 and £300 had gone missing.

The first offender was white, 5ft 4ins tall, aged around 28, slim, with dark, curly hair.

The second was white, in his mid to late 20s, and between 5ft 5ins to 5ft 8ins tall, thin, with thick facial stubble, and scruffy, dark hair.

The third was white, around 30, 5ft 10ins, with dark facial hair, a thin face and average build.
