Hundreds of people are expected to take part in a unique charity challenge in Sheffield – running five kilometres through foam.

The Fun Foam Run is to take place at Weston Park on Saturday, October 4, from 10am, in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for youth housing charity Roundabout.

Organisers are now hoping to sign up as many participants as possible, with runners encouraged to wear fancy dress as they take on the unusual challenge.

Ben Keegan, chief executive of Roundabout, said he was happy the organisation will benefit from the event.

He said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as the main charity for the Fun Foam Run this October.

“All money raised will help us to prevent youth homelessness via our new advice and support service on Union Street Sheffield.

“Roundabout works with more than 150 young people every day.

“This wouldn’t be possible without local people raising funds for our cause.”

Roundabout has been running since 1977, helping young homeless people living in Sheffield.

It provides emergency accommodation, support and training for homeless young people to live independently, in secure bedsits and in shared housing throughout the city.

There will be two challenges open to runners taking part – either completing three laps of the circuit, equivalent to five kilometres, through foam, or trying to cover the furthest possible distance in one hour.

The event has been dubbed ‘the only fun run that doubles as a human car wash’.
