Goodies ranging from sweets and toys to toothbrushes and colouring books were delivered to needy children across Europe and Africa, thanks to a Sheffield firm.

Workers at Regus, at The Portergate on Ecclesall Road, helped to collect thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes from local businesses, schools, churches and individuals as part of Operation Christmas Child.

They have now received special thanks from charity Samaritan’s Purse.

Spokesman Simon Barrington said: “We would like to thank Regus and all the members of the public who brought in shoeboxes.

“Thanks to them, many thousands of children who otherwise wouldn’t have received any presents knew they weren’t forgotten.”

This was the first year that Regus, a workplace provider, has been involved in the appeal. The boxes were sent in time for Christmas to under-privileged children in orphanages, hospitals and refugee camps.

Regus spokesman John Spencer said: “We are delighted to have been involved in the appeal – the response has been fantastic.”
