TEENAGE driver Gemma Battersby is in shock today after swerving her car and crashing into another motorist when she was hit in the face by a snowball thrown by a group of boys.

Gemma, 18, suffered suspected whiplash - and the other driver was rushed to hospital with burns to his hand from a burst airbag - following the smash on Wostenholm Road in Nether Edge, Sheffield, last night.

Gemma, from Totley, who only passed her test a month ago, said: “There were boys on the pavement waiting for cars at the traffic lights near Washington flats, and opening their doors and throwing snowballs in.

“My window was open a bit, and as I drove past they threw a snowball which came into the car and smacked me in the face.

“I was trying to clear the snow from my face when I realised I was on the wrong side of the road. I swerved, hit a corner, and spun around.

“My mum bought my car for my 18th birthday. It looks like it is a write-off.”
