TWO brothers accused of running an illegal scrapyard with their father in Sheffield have been convicted of using threatening, abusive or insulting words towards a neighbour.
Only last week brothers Daniel and Francis Mayfield, aged 25 and 19, along with their father Lee Mayfield, were made the subject of an injunction for running an unauthorised scrap business from a house on Woolley Wood Road in Shiregreen.
The order stops the family from carrying out business activities from Woolley Wood Road, and from using intimidating, confrontational and aggressive behaviour towards residents.
Now the brothers have been found guilty of using abusive language in a dispute last summer - before the injunction was imposed - over vehicle parking on the street.
The brothers were given conditional discharges after Sheffield magistrates decided they did use abusive language towards Derek Lumby one afternoon last August.
Francis Mayfield was also found guilty of causing criminal damage, by kicking the rear door of Mr Lumby’s Land Rover.
Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard from Francis Mayfield’s mother Susan Biggs, who said she had ‘a clear recollection’ her son was in the house at the time.
But District Judge Naomi Redhouse found both brothers guilty. She said: “It seems to me there have been some difficulties in Woolley Wood Road when it comes to parking, but that is not for me to decide upon here.”
Both brothers were made the subject of conditional discharges for 12 months.
Daniel Mayfield was also ordered to pay £175 costs, and Francis the same amount plus £165 in compensation.
