Sheffield schoolboy dies after collision with car

Heartbroken parents are facing Christmas without their much-loved son who died after being hit by a car outside his school.

Sheffield Park Academy pupil Lawrence Moorhouse was left fighting for his life following a collision with a Vauxhall Astra on Beaumont Road North, Manor, at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.

Medics at Sheffield Children’s Hospital fought to save the 14-year-old, but he was pronounced dead yesterday.

In a joint statement his family paid tribute to the Year 9 pupil and spoke of the hole he has left in their lives.

They said: “Lawrence was a very popular young man who attended Sheffield Park Academy.

“He was well-liked and had lots of friends.

“We are devastated by his death and ask to be left to grieve at this difficult time.”

Sheffield Park Academy’s acting principal Craig Dillon was stationed at the school gates when news reached the pupils as they left for the day.

He said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students. Lawrence Moorhouse will be greatly missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Heartfelt tributes from friends flooded social networking sites yesterday.

On Twitter, pal Nikita Georgie wrote: “Another young life taken. RIP Lawrence.”

Sandy Ritchie wrote on The Star’s Facebook page: “RIP Lawrence, so young to be taken. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Beccy Rasooly said: “Heartbreaking. RIP. Condolences to Lawrence’s family.”

The Vauxhall Astra was being driven by a 41-year-old man from Sheffield. He was not harmed in the collision.

Witnesses to the crash should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 731 of 10 December 2013.
