Residents living near the scene of the crash which killed Jasmyn Chan said her death was an ‘accident waiting to happen’ and called for more speed signs and a crossing for children on Normanton Hill.

Sandra Bradley, aged 67, who lives opposite, said: “There’s nothing to tell drivers they should be doing 30mph. Cars go well over 40mph. Children are always congregating in the park and they need a crossing.”

Another resident, a 66-year-old man who wished to remain anonymous, said a sign was fitted close to where Jasmyn died which showed a ‘smiley face’ if a car was travelling within 30mph.

The sign has since been removed, leaving a black pole. “Very rarely did the sign have a smile on its face when the cars went through,” said the man.
