A TENANT jailed for turning his Sheffield council flat into a drug factory has been evicted from his home.
Philip Mattimore, aged 32, of Emerson Crescent, Parson Cross, had grown cannabis with a street value of £11,760 at the property.
The drugs were found when police raided the house in November 2011.
Sheffield County Court heard officers discovered Mattimore was growing marijuana in the bedroom and appeared to be sleeping in the lounge.
Eight medium-sized plants were discovered growing in black plant baths, along with four lamps wired to a timer, and a hole had been cut in the ceiling for the pipe for a fan to vent into the loft.
The court was told that walls in the bedroom were covered in white plastic sheeting to maximise reflection from the lamps, while the window was boarded from the inside.
The walls were covered in mould from the humidity and the bathroom had numerous containers of plant food.
Lawyers for Sheffield Council and Sheffield Homes said the cannabis had ‘an estimated value of £7,560 wholesale or £11,760 in street deals’.
Mattimore admitted production of a class B drug at Sheffield Crown Court last September, when he was jailed for eight months. He was released early on a tag at the end of November.
After his release, the council and Sheffield Homes launched the possession proceedings against him.
At the court, District Judge Paul Mort made an immediate possession order and also ordered Mattimore pay the council’s legal costs of £301.
Coun Harry Harpham, council cabinet member for homes and regeneration said: “We will not tolerate any kind of anti-social behaviour in our properties.
“Mattimore is now paying the highest price for breaking conditions of his tenancy – losing his home.”
