POLICE are investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault in Sheffield city centre.
The crime scene was taped off with police standing guard, and a side street between Wetherspoons pub on Divison Street and West Street Lane cordoned off.
A police spokesman added: “Police are investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault that occurred in the early hours of this morning Wednesday, February 13 at a location near West Street in Sheffield city centre.
“The investigation is in its early stages and officers are currently making enquiries into the incident.”
Staff at local businesses said police had been in attendance since 6.30am this morning,
