THE hunt for a missing man who has not been seen since discharging himself from a South Yorkshire hospital at the weekend has been stepped up by police.
Officers were joined by volunteers from the Woodhead Mountain Rescue team to look for Baden Powell, aged 71, in woods around Lawton Lane, Rotherham, yesterday afternoon as the light faded.
Mountain rescue workers used sticks to hack their way through the woods and police dogs were used to look for the pensioner, who discharged himself from Rotherham Hospital at 3pm on Sunday after collapsing in a pub.
Police said they were extremely concerned for the welfare of Mr Powell, who lives alone in Tinsley. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call police on 101.
