Sheffield’s seaside summer is set to get even bigger – with a special event in the city centre.
While Sheffield by the Seaside – featuring a beach and funfair rides – is running in and around the Peace Gardens until Thursday, August 28, The Moor is getting in on the act this weekend with a Pier and Prom event.
Traditional seaside entertainment will include a Punch and Judy show, fairground rides and a brass band.
A knobbly knees contest, bingo and a glamorous Granny competition, as well as circus workshops, balloon modelling, caricature artist, outdoor games, live performances and a clairvoyant plus a magic show are among the highlights for the weekend.
A sand artist will also be on hand to showcase his work.
Sandra Barley, The Moor centre liaison manager, said: “We aren’t very near to the beach here in Sheffield, so we thought it would be a great idea to bring the beach to the city.
“It will be a great celebration of all that is great about a good old British seaside holiday.”
A busy weekend on The Moor will also see an open-air cinema on Saturday, showing Robin Williams’ film Hook at 11.30am and Muppets Most Wanted at 2.30pm.
