Researchers on the run for charity race

THIS team of top scientists are swapping their white coats for running vests when they take part in a charity run raising funds for their vital research work.
The staff from Weston Park Hospital’s Radiotherapy Physics department were first off the mark to sign up for the 10km Run in the Park challenge, which takes place at Graves Park on Sunday July 10.
Team member Dr Stephen Tozer-Loft, head of radiotherapy physics, said: “There have been big improvements in radiotherapy over the past 20 years and undoubtedly the support of the Weston Park Hospital has played an important role in helped to advance our research.
“We have also been able to share our radiotherapy knowledge and expertise nationally and internationally, thanks to funding from them for a computerised training package.”
One of the projects currently funded by the charity is supporting research to further refine the delivery of radiotherapy so treatment is targeted even more closely to the tumour site, avoiding healthy tissue.
Lyndsey Raynor, fundraiser from the charity, added: “There is always a fantastic atmosphere and from first timers to experienced runners we welcome everyone to take part in either our 10k race or the 3k fun run.”
