Report due today on care given to woman who stabbed girl to death in South Yorkshire park

A REPORT into the care given to a woman with a history of mental health problems who stabbed a 13-year-old girl to death in a South Yorkshire park will be published today.

Hannah Bonser was jailed for a minimum of 22 years after being found guilty of murdering Casey Kearney in Doncaster on Valentine’s Day.

Bonser, age 26, had a diagnosed personality disorder and a history of cannabis abuse.

The jury rejected her claim that she killed Casey because she was a paranoid schizophrenic but the judge in the case accepted Bonser’s mental health problems were a significant mitigating factor.

Primary healthcare trust NHS Doncaster will today publish an independent report into the contact Bonser had with a range of services in the town over the last 10 years.

Casey was stabbed by Bonser on February 14 with a kitchen knife the woman had bought earlier that day.

Bonser, who was a total stranger to Casey, then walked to a nearby mental health charity and handed over two knives as she confessed to what she had done.

Bonser had a long history of mental health problems and heavy cannabis use which had seen her sectioned on three separate occasions in the last decade.
