Sheffield’s leaders will be put on the spot by the public in a series of Question Time-inspired sessions which kick off next week.

The city council’s Cabinet in the Community programme, designed to get people to engage with local democracy, is set to get under way with the South West.

A panel made up of the elected members who are responsible for everything, from culture to communities, will face residents they represent in seven meetings in the South West, South East, North, East, North East, Central and South areas from this month until July.

People can submit questions ahead of the sessions or turn up and ask them at the event, after which they will be discussed and debated.

Sheffield Council leader Coun Julie Dore said: “This is the first of a series of Cabinet in the Community sessions taking place this year and I want to hear from local people about the things that are affecting them most.

“Being elected councillors in our own communities, we appreciate first hand how important it is to give residents and businesses opportunities to talk to us – so that we can work together to make a difference and improve our city.”

Cabinet in the Community events are being hosted by the City’s new Local Area Partnerships.

The first is at 6pm on Thursday, February 13, at St Columba’s Church, Manchester Road, Crosspool.

* North – Wednesday, March 19
