Probe into raid at home of Ben Needham’s mum

thE mum of missing Ben Needham, who vanished 21 years ago, is appealing for help in getting her laptop back - after it was stolen during a break-in at her home.

Kerry Grist, aged 39, of Ecclesfield, said the computer contained photographs of her beloved son Ben, who disappeared on the Greek island of Kos in 1991.

It also contained documents relating to the 20-year search for her son, who went missing from outside the home his grandparents were renovating on the holiday isle.

Kerry said her home was broken into as she slept overnight on Monday, January 16.

When she woke up the following day she found her back door wide open and her computer, cash and games consoles missing.

Police are investigating the burglary but so far nobody has been caught.

Kerry said she is devastated at the break-in.

“It happened two weeks ago but I am just coming to terms with it now - the fact that somebody would come into my house and do that.” she said.

“Everything they took is important, but the loss of the computer with the photos and documents on it is what is really upsetting.

“The police are looking into it but if the break-in was planned I am sure whoever did it would have had gloves on so I am not holding out for them catching anyone.”

The campaign to raise awareness about the disappearance of Kerry’s son, Ben, took a massive step forward earlier this month when Twitter users around the world read and re-posted a ‘tweet’ about the search for him.

Actor Tom Cruise was among those who ‘tweeted for Ben’ and passed on the message to his millions of followers around the globe.

A similar campaign is to be launched on Facebook next month.

Anyone with information about the break-in should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
