Police recover two cars taken by frost-jackers

two cars stolen by frost-jackers in South Yorkshire during this week’s cold snap have been found by police.

A black Volkswagen Passat and a blue Volkswagen Polo were among six stolen across the county on Monday morning after their owners left them unattended with the engine running while they warmed up their vehicles and defrosted the windscreens.

The Passat was taken from South End, Thorne and the Polo from Chapel Close, Finningley.

Thieves at large that morning also struck at Kirten Lane, Thorne; Cemetery Road, Hatfield; Main Street, Cantley; and Station Road, Bolton upon Dearne.

Police have issued a warning to motorists not to leave their cars unattended with the keys still in the ignition, claiming that ‘opportunistic thieves’ will be prowling the streets looking for easy targets.

There were no cars reported stolen by car-jackers yesterday morning.

Anyone with information about the car jackers should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
