Womena are being urged to be on their guard after two females were targeted in ‘horrific’ sex attacks on the same night in Rotherham.
Police today urged those living in Moorgate, Rotherham, to be vigilant after two separate incidents - which could be linked.
Officers said a 27-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on Moorgate Road at 11.30pm on Friday night.
Then in the early hours of Saturday morningm, a woman was sexually assaulted following a 1am break-in at an address, also in Moorgate, during which two women were seriously assaulted.
Police said the younger of the women was then sexually attacked.
Detective Superintendent Lisa Ray who is leading the investigation said: “Our priority at this stage in our investigation is to locate the person or persons responsible for these horrific attacks and piece together their description.
“Additional officers are supporting the investigation which is initially focussing on conducting forensic and house-to-house enquiries and critically to support the victims.”
Rotherham District Commander Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin added: “These types of offences are incredibly rare. At this time, until we have someone in custody, I would ask the public to be more cautious when out and about in their community.
“We are increasing the number of officers on patrol in the area but if anyone sees anyone acting suspiciously we urge them to contact police.”
Police said no arrests have yet been made.
