Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace over an attempted robbery in Sheffield city centre.

A 22-year-old woman was walking along Solly Street when she was approached by a man and threatened with a knife close to the Edward Streets flats complex.

He put his arm around her waist and asked if she had any money while forcing her to walk to Kenyon Street.

The offender eventually let her go and told her not to look back.

She ran away and dialled 999.

Police officers investigating the incident at 8.20pm on Saturday, December 7, believe the man in the CCTV image could hold vital information.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A woman was walking along Solly Street. As she approached the entrance to Edward Street flats an unknown man came up behind her.

“It is alleged he put his arm around her waist and asked if she had any money. He then allegedly threatened her with a knife.”
