POLICE and council staff joined forces to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour in Hoyland and Wombwell, Barnsley.
Officers, police community support officers, mounted police and workers from Barnsley Council, Berneslai Homes, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and TV Licensing, all combined resources for the community blitz.
The anti-social behaviour team executed warrants for non-payment of fines and arrested a man and a woman, while a further person paid their fine.
Police issued a fixed penalty notice for possession of cannabis and two for obstruction and Berneslai Homes conducted crime surveys to gauge the views of tenants about anti-social behaviour in the area.
Meanwhile, benefit fraud staff visited 69 properties and took 29 statements from residents.
Staff from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue visited 230 properties and found 31 needed fire safety advice and smoke alarms.
Crime prevention advice was also given.
Barnsley Council’s neighbourhood pride team collected about half a tonne of waste from Blythe Street and surrounding areas and high visibility patrols were carried out.
Acting Sergeant Jayne Morriss, who led the operation said: “This has been a resounding success.
“As well as targeting criminals within the area, we have also been able to focus collectively on quality-of -life issues raised by the local community through crime and safety groups and also through local contact.
“We have been able to pull together a number of police resources as well as working closely with many of our partner agencies.”
