Player escapes jail after attack

A ROTHERHAM United player who broke a man’s jaw in a club brawl has been spared jail.

Midfielder David Noble, aged 30, appeared at Bristol Crown Court yesterday and was sentenced to a 12-month community order for an attack in the Java nightclub in Bristol city centre.

He admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Tim Winterbottom in an attack on March 18.

Noble denied assaulting another man and the Crown Prosecution Service accepted his denial.

The footballer, who used to play for Bristol, was ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the community.

He must also pay his victim a sum of £2,000 in compensation.
