An 81-year-old man was left shaken and upset after he was confronted by two masked men who forced their way into his South Yorkshire home and stole his wallet.

The pensioner had gone out to investigate a noise and as he opened the door of his home in Cedar Crescent, Kendray, Barnsley, two men barged in.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “As he opened the door, two men with their faces covered, forced entry into the property, knocking the man backwards. 
“They demanded money and sprayed him in the face with an unknown liquid before taking the man’s wallet which contained a substantial amount of cash.”

She added: “Fortunately the man did not sustain any serious injuries but is incredibly shaken and upset by the incident.”

The attack happened at 3.50am yesterday morning.

Police said that the pensioner heard a noise and had gone out to investigate.

It was then that the masked men pushed their way into his home, knocking him out of the way.

The men are described as white and both were of slim build.

One was approximately 5ft 11ins tall and the other was 5ft 9ins.

They both spoke with local accents.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
