Patnick tributes from Blunkett

FURTHER tributes have been paid to late former Sheffield MP Sir Irvine Patnick, whose funeral was held yesterday.

Brightside and Hillsborough Labour MP David Blunkett said: “I am deeply sorry that Irvine’s last few months were surrounded by such terrible controversy on the back of the tragic events of 1989 at Hillsborough.

“I hope he will be remembered for the remarkable, often frustrating, and sometimes very amusing character that I knew back in the 1980s when we spent so much out our time in political combat.”

Mr Blunkett was Labour leader of Sheffield City Council and was a member of South Yorkshire County Council at the same time as Sir Irvine also sat on both authorities as a Conservative.

The funeral of 83-year-old former Hallam MP Sir Irvine was held yesterday at Colley Road Cemetery, Ecclesfield, attended by family, friends and former colleagues.
