Parents told off by school pupils
IT was a case of role reversal when parents were told off by children – for parking irresponsibly outside a primary school.
Youngsters from Woodthorpe Primary School, Staveley, Chesterfield, patrolled outside their school with police officers to deter motorists for causing an obstruction with vehicles when they drop children off at the start of the day or collect them at the end.
Pupils and officers spoke to parents about the dangers of blocking drives and footpaths and reminded them of the law.
PCSO Sue Cooke, of Staveley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We are pleased to work with the school to address such an important local issue.
“The safety of the children and the wider community is a priority for us and hopefully our presence will make people realise the consequences of parking dangerously.”
Headteacher Eileen Gunton added: “It’s really good to empower the children and encourage them to challenge parents causing an obstruction.”
